Playful Therapy: Matchmaking Play and Emotion

A 2 Day Experiential Intensive with Tracy Azevedo & Tamara Strijack

For mental health professionals and students, and helping professionals looking to expand their toolkit and deepen their understanding of play-based interventions. The evidence based theory within the Neufeld Institute and Developmental Science has long been championing the healing power of the play mode, whether one is a child, an adolescent or an adult. However, in the field of therapy (and in all areas of life, professional and personal) play is often overlooked and undervalued. Join us as we explore the purposeful dynamics of emotion and the inherent properties of play - and most importantly, the magical interplay of when they come together.

Re-turning to Nature's Way

As school Counsellors we work within a wide spectrum of behaviours, disorders, and felt expectations. Often we find ourselves holding space for the child within the school setting, as well as with educators and parents in working towards conditions for the child to flourish. Together we will look at What do we see? What don’t we see? What do we do? in exploring ways of bringing insight and practice through the ancient and eclipsed role of emotion and play in our work.

         What DO we see

What DON'T we see?

         What do we DO?

Anxiety is reaching epidemic proportions, as one of the most common diagnoses in children, as well as youth and adults. Anxiety takes on many forms including obsessions, compulsions, phobias, and panic. Various hand-me-down strategies attempt to address this age-old problem. But anxiety begs for an explanation in order to arrive at a solution that addresses the roots, not just manage the symptoms. This three hour work shop sheds light on this age-old problem, paving the way for natural interventions that can actually get to the root causes as opposed to just managing symptoms. This course is geared towards adults, either for self or in coming alongside others.
